As we all realize, the Hispanic population in the U.S. continues to grow at double digit rates. Of the many states with a significant Hispanic population, Texas leads the pack with over 10 million Hispanics or 40% in the State of Texas with a total population of roughly 25 million people.
Of the 97,000 lawyers licensed to practice law in the Texas by the State Bar of Texas, only 6000 lawyers are Hispanic/Hispanic. So in a state with close to 10 million Hispanics, there are only 6000 Hispanic Lawyers making a ratio 167-1, meaning there are 167 Hispanics for each Texas Hispanic Lawyer. On the flipside, the ratio for non-Hispanics to non-Hispanic Lawyers is 16-1.
This creates a scenario of a vastly underserved community. It goes without saying that Non-Hispanics can indeed represent the Hispanic Community, but cultural, nationality and language constraints, Hispanic lawyers or lawyers who know how to serve this community are in and will continue to be in great demand.
