Aptivus is the brand name for Tipranavir, or Tipranavir Disodium, manufactured and marketed by Boehringer-Ingelheim, and used in conjunction with other medications to treat HIV, or human immunodeficiency virus. The drug was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.
Tipranavir has been tied to a number of adverse health consequences, from bleeding in the brain and hepatitis to high blood sugar and diabetes. It has also been shown in clinical trials to increase cholesterol levels, as well as triglycerides.
