Zoloft, the brand name for Sertraline, is an antidepressant marketed by Pfizer , first approved for use in the United States in 1991. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Zoloft for a number of conditions, from depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder to panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. It has also been prescribed for treatment of pre-menstrual symptoms.
The FDA has reported a number of potential adverse side effects from the use of Zoloft, such as insomnia, sleepiness, headache, severe diarrhea, impotence, decreased sex drive, weight gain, weight loss and short term memory loss. Studies also found increased risks of suicide by users under the age of 25.
