Tim Shaffer

Tim Shaffer is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Hope College and has a law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He served as general counsel for Winner International, the manufacturer and marketer of automotive aftermarket products such as The Club® and taught business law at Grand Valley State University, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Though not currently practicing, Tim has been a member of the Michigan, Pennsylvania and Minnesota bar associations. He has also been certified as a mediator in Michigan and Alabama.

Tim has worked as a writer and an editor for most of his working life. Before making his foray into freelancing, Tim worked for FindLaw/Thomson Reuters. As the first Lead Attorney Editor hired at FindLaw, Tim helped develop the web content team at FindLaw, hiring and training editors and writers, establishing standards, and developing/leading training. Tim has personally written thousands of websites, blogs, articles, and other content for clients in a variety of professions, including attorneys, therapists, doctors, chiropractors, and funeral home directors. He has written extensively on a wide array of legal topics, including personal injury, family law, criminal defense, immigration, intellectual property, and even fragrance law.

A native of Western Michigan, Tim also has lived in Alaska, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Minnesota. He currently calls Birmingham, Alabama home. When he's not at work in his writer's garret, you may find him singing or playing the guitar or mandolin with one of his two bands, teaching a guitar lesson, riding his road bike, smoking BBQ at his church, hitting balls at the tennis club, working in his wood shop, or walking his four dogs with his wife, Susan. A father of two, Tim is a voracious reader, favoring fiction and a bit of social commentary.
