Actos

Pioglitazone, a prescription drug sold under the trade name Actos, is a pharmaceutical product proven to lower blood sugar levels in persons with Type 2 diabetes. It has also been used in experiments to treat persons with fatty liver.

In 2007, the manufacturer of the drug, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company, acknowledged that Pioglitazone had been tied to increased risk of bone fracture in females. Studies also show that Actos can cause fluid retention and risk of peripheral edema, may hasten the development of congestive heart failure, and may cause anemia. Users have also experienced weight gain, respiratory tract infections, headaches and sinus conditions, and toothaches.

In 2011, officials in France took Pioglitazone off the market because of concerns that there was a high risk of bladder cancer associated with the drug. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned users that same year that use of Pioglitazone for more than one year could increase risk of bladder cancer.

If you or someone you love has suffered injury after taking Actos, GetLegal has the tools and resources to help you find skilled legal representation to protect your rights. Visit our attorney directory, look for your geographic location and find the best lawyer for your situation.
