Alli

Alli is the over-the-counter version of Orlistat (chemical name tetrahydrolipstatin), a drug marketed by GlaxoSmithKline in the United States for the treatment of obesity. It is designed to prevent the absorption of fat in a human diet, thereby decreasing calorie intake. It has also been shown to reduce blood pressure and suspend the onset of Type 2 diabetes.

Orlistat has long been known to cause a variety of side effects, including:

  • Steatorhhea—oily and loose stools, as well as excessive flatulence
  • Other gastrointestinal conditions, such as fecal incontinence, and excessive or urgent bowel movements
  • An increased risk of acute kidney injury (a study showed the rate of acute kidney injury to be three times as high for Orlistat users than non-users)
  • A small risk of liver injury

If you or someone you love has suffered injury after using Alli, GetLegal has the tools and resources to help you find skilled legal representation to protect your rights. Visit our attorney directory, look for your geographic location and find the best lawyer for your situation.
