Cymbalta, the product name for Duloxetine, is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) developed and marketed by Eli Lilly. The drug has been used primarily for treatment of depression and anxiety, but has also been prescribed for fibromyalgia and neuropathic pain. Duloxetine was approved for treatment of depression and diabetic neuropathy by the FDA in 2004.
Patients using Cymbalta have reported a broad range of detrimental side effects, from nausea and dizziness to insomnia and drowsiness. As with other SNRIs, Cymbalta has also been tied to sexual dysfunction, including lack of interest, difficulty attaining orgasm or inability to ejaculate. Cymbalta has also been linked to potential liver toxicity.
